About the Event

Fighting Fit Football will be sending a team to the inaugural Cure Parkinson’s Cup at Worcester Warrior's Sixways stadium, and we are looking to recruit more players for the event.

The Cup is to be played as part of Sport's Parkinson's Summer Try-Athlon - a multi sports, community day aimed at bringing the Parkinson's community together to exercise, have fun and take part in nurmous activities.

There will be both 7-a-side and walking football games which will involve players from across the UK - all  players will need to be Parkinson’s battlers. The tournament will be fully inclusive so that players of all abilities, with any degree of Parkinson’s symptoms, of any age, gender or level of fitness can participate.

The format of the day has yet to be announced but is expected to involve both:

  • walking football exhibition matches in morning involving teams formed from players from the north vs south of the UK; and
  • a 7 a-side tournament in the afternoon, for which Fighting Fit Football will enter at least one team, with the 5 a-side winners lifting the Cure Parkinson’s Cup.

Matches will be played on Sixway's astroturf (4G) pitches.

If you are interested in playing as part of the Fighting Fit Football 7 a-side team (and ideally can train with us in St Albans as well), then please regsiter here or use the contact form on our website.

Otherwise if you are interested in the walking football or wish to enter 7 a-side team of your own (minimum of 6 players), or are an individual without a team you should register at www.sportparkinsons.org. Individuals without a team will be allocated teams based on geographical location so that they can connect with each other and possibly train ahead of the tournament.

[Note: Teams and players may be expected to raise funds for the Cure Parkinson's Trust in order to enter the tournament but this is TBC. Fighting Fit Footballl have raised funds previously to help find a cure via our Virgin MoneyGiving page.]

Sport Parkinson’s CIC promotes exercise and participation in sporting activities for people with Parkinson’s Disease.

Sport Parkinson’s aim to encourage members and the wider Parkinson’s community to get active and take regular exercise to benefit their mental and physical health and improve their symptoms.
